Prosecutors alleged that he intimidated her and she felt compelled to climb down from his 14th-floor apartment. The most important piece of evidence in Tostee’s acquittal was an audio recording he made the night of the murder. He indicated that looking over the edge might appear as though he was involved with Wright’s death. On the tape, Wright can be heard crying and pleading to go home. His attorneys claimed Tostee merely used “reasonable force” to restrain an “increasingly erratic” woman.

Pennsylvania has an electorate that votes in about equal numbers for both political parties, making it a key battleground state in recent presidential elections. On Monday, the court also approved a revised nomination petition calendar that keeps the primary election scheduled for May 15.
But Republicans have consistently won the same 13 of the state’s 18 U.
“This entire exercise, while cloaked in ‘litigation,’ is and has been nothing more than the ultimate partisan gerrymander – one brought about by the Democrat[ic] governor acting in concert with liberal politically connected litigants,” Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R., Jefferson) and House Speaker Mike Turzai (R., Allegheny) said in a statement. “This court recognized that the primary responsibility for drawing congressional districts rested squarely with the legislature,” its order read, “but we also acknowledged that” redrawing the map would fall to the court if the legislature did not pass one that Wolf would sign.
Drawing a map, the court majority wrote, is “a role which our court has full constitutional authority and responsibility to assume.” Pennsylvania’s most recent map of congressional districts was declared an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander by the state Supreme Court, sparking a nasty political and legal fight, and setting off a scramble to draw a new map for the 2018 midterm elections.
