Black women dating outside their race
As marriage rates decrease, black men still marry and date outside of their race/ethnic group, but not as much as people believe. Census Bureau showed that 86 percent of black married men were married to black women, 7 percent have a white spouse, 4 percent have a Hispanic spouse (regardless of race) and 3 percent are married to another race/ethnic group.
Statistics show marriage rates among black men is higher among black men and women than with other groups. A common misconception states that black men are not marrying black women, but that is statistically untrue.
Judice said she hopes the stories will encourage more Black women and white men to do the same.
“If we don’t talk about it, it’s always going to be the elephant in the room,” she told the newspaper.
Rachel Lindsay, the first black female to participate, broke down in tears.
“The pressures that I feel about being a black woman and what that is... The show exposes the fraught dynamics of race, dating, and marriage for black women in America. in my mind ‘bachelorettes’ were white women who were brides-to-be or bridesmaids in their best friends’ weddings, throwing parties to celebrate the end of their spinsterhood,” writes Robin Boylorn for in the 1900s, most black adults were married.
“Many of the Black mothers [I interviewed] expressed their frustration about the dating and marriage prospects of their daughters,” Judice, who’s African-American, wrote in her book.If you ask young black men why they date outside of their race, there are a few popular answers: “Black girls are loud, they’re too ghetto, too controlling, they have too much attitude and they do not cater to their man.” To say these reasons are ludicrous would be an understatement.These overgeneralized asides can be attached to any race of women.The reason young, black men are not dating young, black women is as simple as this—these black boys are too immature for these black women.A Northwestern University professor says she penned her latest book with the hope that Black women will begin to “intentionally seek to broaden their idea of suitable dating and marriage partners,” or simply look for love outside their race.“[Meanwhile], the Black mothers with sons noted that the males were pursued by women from various racial/ethnic groups.” Many of the women in the book said they were pursued by white men as well.One of the ladies, named *Cathy said she took a risk and agreed to date a white man who asked her out.Black men dating outside of their race is not a new concept.In fact, It is widely believed black men are more likely to date women outside of their race; however, this isn’t quite the truth.It is widely believed that black women have more attitude than women of other races, but that is a cultural opinion based on the fact that black women are known to be very opinionated on matters that concern them.Young,black men want black women to take care of them, yet they do not reciprocate.
